BackTraveling in the Cold or Rainy Season
- March 14, 2026
Depending on your length of employment, every year you’ll have at least 2 weeks of vacation up to many many weeks of vacation therefore, some holidays are taken in the winter. Have you ever considered a vacation to Niagara in the winter? Outdoor activities are more limited, and to be honest, not as pleasant as the summer, but there are some great indoor things to keep you busy for a little holiday.
If you are one of those who really enjoy the outdoors, you’ll appreciate the outdoor skating rink at the Wayne Gretzky Winery, the outdoor tasting village in Niagara on the Lake during the Winter Wine Festival weekends, and not to be missed, is the iced over railings and light posts located near the Falls are very beautiful, it’s similar to the beauty of the first snow of the season on the pine trees.
Now, you’re not an outdoor or cold weather person, ok, no problem, let’s look at some indoor activities. Every city has a museum, and the Welland Museum not only holds many articles of Welland’s past, but it is also located in a historical building. Exhibits do change throughout the year, they have a dedicated children’s area and entry is by donation. Depending on how much you read, be here an hour, and 2 hours if with little ones who like to explore the exhibit.
Virtual sports have a lot of appeal these days, and Welland does have their own center called All Sports Simulated. Many different sports are available, and advance reservations are available. There is a small bar area, so plan a few hours here perfecting your perfect kick, swing, or throw with golf, hockey, baseball, soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse and more! Rooms are booked per hour, up to 5 guests per simulator.
Sometimes the ‘old school’ activities that are in our hands, not on screens are the most fun. If you’re that type of person, spend a few hours at the Leisure Cafe. They have a nice selection of beverages and standard snacks with a large selection of board games! Turn those phones off and reconnect with those right in front of you.
We can’t end this without mentioning the local shopping center, the Seaway Mall, and a few others nearby if you really have the desire to shop. We hope this has inspired some travel to Niagara, even if it becomes the rain day plan if not traveling during the winter.
Check back in 2 weeks to get our recommendations for outdoor active lifestyle activities in the warmer months.
