Travel ideas for couples - when it's warm

  • March 28, 2026

You’ve decided to travel to Niagara, and have the main components of the trip planned, see Niagara Falls, do some cycling but it’s all pretty vague. Let us help you fill up the day!

We’ve planned 3 nights, and four days.  The first night is open, ask the receptionist for a good place to eat, take a short walk around the hotel, find your way around and get settled in.

Day One-

First morning of your stay, wake up early, at least once, and enjoy a colorful sunrise over the canal at Rotary Park, just 100m from the hotel’s exit.

After a filling breakfast, time to pump up the bike tires and head out for a ride. Keeping it easy on the first day, ride down to Port Colborne, which is South / right onto the Welland Canals Parkway trail, from the hotel.  To reach Port Colborne it is only a 10km ride, one way.  You may want to stop, lock the bike and explore West Street for some great shopping, specialty stores for chocolate, honey, candy, bakeries as well as full service restaurants if you are already ready for a meal.

To keep your day moving on the bike, continue your ride down the Friendship Trail, this leads to Ridgeway and Fort Erie. Ridgeway has a lovely little main street with restaurants and a brewery. Just remember, what you pedal one way, needs to be pedaled back the other way.

Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and a walk along the canal before sunset.

Day Two -

Today you can work your arms, by enjoying a paddle board excursion, or kayak / canoe paddle. You can bring your own, or rent one from the Rec Rentals at Rotary Park.   Paddle North for a longer excursion.  Return to the hotel and bring out a picnic blanket by the water to enjoy more of the outdoors.  Another lovely spot for a picnic would be the Rose Garden at Chippewa Park. There is a lot of space for a picnic and you can even play a game of volleyball on the sand here.  Either option, enjoy the bird watching and photography opportunities.

Take the afternoon to visit Niagara Falls, or Niagara on the Lake for sightseeing, wine or beer tasting, or shopping.  Stay for dinner and depending on the day of the week, enjoy some fireworks over the falls.

Day 3 -

You can either ride the bike on the Welland Canals Parkway and make your way North, where you’ll be challenged with some elevation on your way back, and some riding on the road. If you’d rather not balance the bike today, you can hike at Short Hills Provincial Park (about 20minutes from the hotel).  Enjoy a variety of looped trails for a few hours in nature. Don’t forget to pack some water and a few snack bars in case you start enjoying the hiking more than planned. Additional hiking is available at St John Conservation, Morning Star Mill, among others a bit further away. The Bruce Trail runs through Niagara.

On your way back from hiking, make a stop for a late lunch in Pelham, a lovely town with some really great dining options like the Fenwick Pie Company, The Grill on Canboro, Mossimo’s Pizza and Subs, Root and Bone, My Place Bar & Grill

To pass the rest of the afternoon, and if you still want to be on your feet, take a walk at Merritt Island. A very shaded walking area with distance markers, a great place to see wildlife of squirrels, birds, chipmunks.

We hope to see you here for an active vacation this summer!

The days of those binders in the hotel guest room are dwindling down and we're one of the properties who now use a QR code to tell you about the hotel and area information.
