While not run by the hotel, the rentals at Rotary Park are a great addition to your hotel stay.  Whether you are a swimmer, a canoer, a kayaker or a stand up paddle board user, you can find hours of fun just steps from the hotel.

The Welland Recreational Canal is one of the former Welland Canals, where the large ships traveled from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario (or vise versa) until 1932, when the new canal was opened and is still in operation today. The canal behind the hotel has gone through a lot of phases of use. It was once used by those in motorized fishing boats for several years, and even some jet skis being pulled behind them through town by water.

With the goal to expand user groups and reduce the effect of a wake a “Go Quiet” by-law was passed 2005 which prohibited the use of any motorized boat in the canal. Since then, different areas along the canal lands have been developed, including the Rotary Park, Merritt Amphitheater, the Welland International Flatwater Centre when National championships in Canoe, Kayak, Dragon Boating and swimming take place every few years. 

If you already own one of those recreational toys, bring it with you and enjoy the open water. There is no charge for children under 12 years of age for the first hour, and there is even group pricing. 

Open daily from 8am to 8pm until September 1st, plan your summer on the water in Welland now.  Rental still available on weekends until October 13th from 9am to 6pm.
