Several options to challenge your swim abilities in Welland this summer. 

A couple of weeks ago we wrote about the Welland Triathlon. Maybe it piqued your interest or maybe you said, there is no way I am participating in 3 different sports in the same day!

Well, Welland has a few more events beginners, or veteran athletes, can register to participate in.  These events involve only swimming or swimrun. 

CanAqua runs 3 events in Welland in 2025, but hosts events at other places in Ontario, the USA and Europe. The swimrun mudskipper races are extremely popular in Europe. 

June 8th kicks off the series in Welland at the Boat House. Featuring swim distances of 1km, 3km, or 5km in the Welland Canal. Swimrun participants will have a 10km course where they run a portion of the course, go into the water, go back on land, back into the water, its quite interesting to watch!  This swimrun event is the longer running event in Welland with it being in it’s 8th season. 

August 3rd the racing takes place at the Welland International Flatwater Centre with swim distances of 1km, 2.5km, 5km, or 10km.  Each distance has its own time limit to complete and is a mass start. There is also the swimrun option for a 9.20km distance. 

At the end of summer on September 7th at the Welland International Flatwater Centre you can attempt one last time the solo swims or a swimrun.  This last date has the addition of a 15km swim challenge called an Ultra swim.   Are you up for it?

The waters of the Welland Canal are great for these events as they are usually calm and it does not have a current.
