The International Plowing Match

What is that and when does it take place?

When I first heard about it, I thought ‘that must be snow plowing’, but the event is in Niagara Region in September, so I had to be wrong.  I have since learned that it is a very popular agricultural event, and they have been celebrating agricultural and rural living for 106 years! 

Many areas celebrate agriculture through farmers markers, heritage festivals, or exhibitions for a weekend.  This expo runs for runs for 5 days from September 16 to 20th, 2025 in Grassie, in the Township of West Lincoln, about 30 minutes from the hotel. 

If you are traveling to Niagara in September, the weather is usually fantastic, so plan a few days to overlap with this expo. Their website says “There are plowing competitions, a range of activities for people of all ages, antique and historical displays, numerous opportunities to learn about agriculture, near-constant live entertainment & performances, horses and other competitions, hundreds of vendors and exhibitors (large and small equipment, lifestyle items and much more).  Sounds like it is certainly an expo for at least 1 day, for those who would say they are not into ‘farming or rural living’ on a regular basis. 

I am sure you can speak to a lot of great people who would be exhibiting about growing your own food and living more consciously / rurally. 

I will certainly bring my significant other down there to see this event, it’s been around for over 100 years and draws over 70,000 people, so there must be something great about it!
